Slow Is Smooth, Smooth Is Fast

Insight Soccer Training brings you a message that may seem counterintuitive at first: to get faster, you need to slow down. It's a concept that resonates deeply with our coaching philosophy, and we want to delve into the importance of embracing this idea for both soccer and mental well-being.

In the world of soccer, speed is a coveted attribute. Parents often express their desire for their kids to be faster in various aspects of the game: sprinting, ball control, and shooting. However, what many don't realize is that the key to achieving these goals lies in mastering technique, and to do that effectively, you must begin by going slower.

"Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast."

This adage serves as a guiding principle in our coaching approach. We strive to instill this concept in our young players because it is fundamental to their development. Instead of rushing through moves and techniques, we encourage them to break it down step by step, focusing on precision and control.

Balance Before Speed

Even the world's most exceptional athletes rarely prioritize speed as the primary trait in their sport. In soccer, for instance, balance often takes precedence over speed for any player. Speed without balance rarely leads to success on the pitch.

Fewer Touches, More Ground

While you may have seen countless Instagram videos of players rapidly touching the ball, what we emphasize is a longer, more deliberate stride into space with fewer touches on the ball. Efficiency is the key. Skilled players can maintain control without constantly touching the ball, utilizing their body's momentum and the ball's momentum to do most of the work.

So, whether you're striving to master a new skill or aiming to improve your soccer performance, remember the importance of slowing down. Efficient movements and deliberate practice are the building blocks of success.
