FootyCourt

Take your footy skills to the racquetball court

FootyCourt brings soccer to the racquetball court. Two players rally a FootyCourt ball off the front wall using any part of the body except the hands and arms, building the touch, volleys, headers, and half-volleys you take back to the field.

01

What is FootyCourt?

FootyCourt is a one-on-one game played on a standard racquetball court with a ball built for it. Players take turns striking the ball to the front wall, and the rally continues until someone faults or misses.

Every soccer player near a racquetball court should have one. Avoid the snow, the darkness, the heat, and chasing balls everywhere.

02

The ball

Bring a regular soccer ball into a racquetball court and you'll probably get kicked out, or at least get some dirty looks from the racquetball players. The walls, lights, and glass are designed to take the impact of a rubber ball, not a soccer ball.

An official FootyCourt ball is made of the same rubber as a racquetball. It is the same size as a size 4 soccer ball, but lighter and designed for the court, so you can keep your regular soccer ball in the car.

03

The court

The court consists of a service zone, a safety line, and four walls.

01

Service zone where every serve starts.

02

Safety line that the receiving player stands behind during the serve.

03

Side walls that are in play during the rally.

04

Back wall you can play the ball off to send it to the front wall, as long as it doesn't bounce before it strikes the front wall.

05

Front wall that every shot has to reach.

The ceiling is only playable indirectly. Striking the ball directly against the ceiling or the door at the back ends the rally, and the opponent wins the point or serve.

04

The serve

Stand in the service zone, bounce the ball once, and strike it toward the front wall while your opponent stands behind the safety line. Once the ball has hit the front wall and passed completely back over the service zone, the rally begins.

If your first serve is too short or too long (not past the service zone, or hitting the back wall without a bounce), you get one more chance to complete a successful serve before you lose the point.

05

The rally

Once the ball is served, players take turns making continuous shots at the front wall. The ball can hit any wall, as long as it hits the front wall before it hits the floor.

The ball can only bounce twice on the floor or body before it must be struck toward the wall. Strikes with any part of the body except the hands and arms don't count toward the two bounces.

06

Scoring points

The rally continues until one player faults or misses a shot. A rally is also lost when a player hits the ceiling directly or touches the ball with a hand or arm. The winner of the rally serves next, and only the serving player can score a point.

01

Best of 3 games wins the match.

02

Games one and two are played to 15.

03

The final game is played to 11, win by 2.

07

Other rules

01

Hindering. Stay out of your opponent's way during their turn. An attempt to block or hinder them gives them the point.

02

Wall to wall. The ball cannot hit the back wall directly from the front wall.

03

Serve double fault. A serve that strikes the ceiling directly is a double fault.

08

Learning the game

If you know the rules of racquetball, FootyCourt will be easy to learn. If you don't, have no fear: most board games are harder to pick up.

The hard part is learning how the ball bounces, which techniques to use, and how much power to put behind each strike. With practice, those skills translate to the outdoor game, and you'll get better at taking the ball out of the air with headers, volleys, and half-volleys.

09

Accommodations

Players new to the game can add bounces. If a player can't strike the ball to the front wall within a set number of bounces, play a modified game where the ball simply has to stay in the air until a higher level of skill is reached. For younger players, a side wall can become the front wall.
